The term "Techwear" is fairly new, at least in it's current usage. It was created by Michael Lehman (of Veilance brand fame) for his show during the Pitti Uomo tradeshow in Florence, Italy in 2011. He needed a way to describe what he was doing for his show and this term seemed like the best description.

Since then, it has been used to describe a wide variety of clothing, from the sporty and functional to the more avant-garde and fashion-forward.

At its core, techwear is about functionality. The use of high-tech materials and modern construction techniques make these clothes ideal for those who live an active lifestyle or who need.
